WHEN TIME STANDS STILL

As a child, I believed I had the superpower to slow time.

There were moments throughout my day when I perceived the world in slow motion, cars driving at a crawl, people walking inch by inch, the clock’s hand pausing between ticks, and all the while I continued to move in fast motion.

Sadly I never discovered how to control my superpower, but last year time stood still for me.

I was in Iceland. I was lying underneath the heavens as the Northern Lights danced to the beat of my heart and I stopped to listen to the Maker of Time.

Time is motion.

As the seconds of your life seem to tick away, your journey through time seems to be dictated by how fast you are moving towards your destinations, dreams, and purpose.

Time causes joy, time causes pain, and time never stops ticking.

Many perceive life and time as if sand, slipping through your fingers, precious, irreplaceable, and undervalued till it is gone.

When I am consumed by time, I worry and I fear.  I worry that I will waste it and I fear that I will forget or be forgotten.

Thus time dictates my life….UNTIL I meet with my Maker.

When God stopped my time for that moment in Iceland, I felt infinite and also finite. Caught and brought into eternity with God, me only being a small instrument of praise and a story of grace. And Him being my Master Clockmaker, the Director of my steps, the Orchestrator of my dreams, the Redeemer of my past, the Protector of my future, and the Judge of my life.

Psalm 46:10-11 says…

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

In the stillness we hear our heart beating for new life and hope.  In the silence we can hear the voice of our Father beckoning us into His embrace to know Him as God and to be enwrapped into His nature, Lord Almighty, God with us, our Fortress.

When was the last time you stood still and were awakened by God?

A time when He breathed new life into your lungs and cast out all worry, fear, and shame.  For He is a God that commands you to not worry about tomorrow but to seek after Him and all that He ushers into life and time, His timing (Matthew 6:33-34).

Proverbs 16:9 says…

In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.

Be still, know the Creator of Time, hear His heartbeat for you, and let Him establish you outside of time.

You see, we live in a fast paced and impatient world that will consume us, but we have a hope in the Author of Time.

David prayed in Psalm 90:12

Teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Time is not the enemy when it is held in the Father’s hands.  Next time you hear the clock go tick tick tick, be still and ask for God to stop your time.  Stand still and let God interrupt your life with His new life.

With a new year beckoning, there is new life in the stillness and quietness.  There is new life only by the grace given by the Creator of Time.

A Time for Everything

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:

a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

What do workers gain from their toil? I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God. Ecclesiastes 3:1-13
